Week #35

Learning Log for Week of May 2nd - May 5th.


My favorite thing this week was working on my boy scout badges.


Homeroom:

This week I worked on Math on Khan Academy.  I also played my prodigy math game.  I went on brain pop and watched some videos.

Math:

This week in Math I finished lesson # 11 in Math U See. This week it was learning how to skip count by 3.  Learning how to skip count by 3 was easier than by 9.  

English/Language Arts:

I worked on my Spelling-U-See and finished my lesson #6.  I am learning about tricky 7 guy.  It was the nursery rhyme about the old lady who swallowed a fly.  One of the day you get to draw a picture, I drew a picture of the lady swallowing a spider.

Science:

This week in science we talked more about biomes.  We starting studied marine water.  We got to learn about the different levels in the ocean.  Then we got to watch a movie by James Cameron about him going in a submarine down the mariana trench.

History/Geography:

This week in Geography we talked about the religions of our country.  In South Korea many of the people there practice Buddhism.  My mom says we are going to try and visit all the 5 major world religions sacred spots here in Utah.  I am excited for the field trips.

Tech:

This week I kept working on my last assignment.  I am starting to build different things and see if I can get the motor to make them move.  I am excited to try new things this summer and then take the next lego class next year.

P.E:
 
We are still practicing twice a week.  We have a soccer game on Saturdays.  I got a new bag to help me load my gear.  The games are becoming more fun.  We are going to have a soccer party and soon.

Week #34

Learning Log for Week of April 25th - April 29th


My favorite thing this week was reading Bambi.


Homeroom:

This week  I worked on my math prodigy. I also went on Khan Academy.  I also did my math flash cards.

Math:

This week in Math I finished lesson # 10 in Math U See. Last week I learned how to skip count by 9, so this week I was able to learn how to multiply by 9. It was pretty easy since we worked on it last week too. I am doing my flashcards with my mom to help with my addition and subtraction.

English/Language Arts:

I worked on my Spelling-U-See and finished my lesson #5.  I am learning about bossy r's.  This week it was Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.  It was fun to learn how to write it because this is my little brothers favorite rhyme.

Science:

This week in science we talked more about biomes.  We starting studied about deserts and tundras.  I like the deserts because there are some cool animals.  We got a book at the library that tells the story about how the camel go it's humps.  I

History/Geography:

This week in Geography we talked more about religions.  We talked about the religions in Asia.  It was interesting that the 5 largest religions in the world are all practiced in Asia.

Tech:

This week I kept working on my last assignment.  I am excited to finish my last project, but I want to be able to do more.  My friend, George, and I are going to work more on doing new creations.

P.E:
 
We are working on our drills.  I also went to goalie practice on Tuesday night.  This is where we get better training on what it means to be a goalie.

Week #33

Learning Log for Week of April 18th - 22nd


My favorite thing this week was science and learning about the biomes.


Homeroom:

This week I studied brain pop.  I also played my math prodigy game.  We watched some videos on Khan Academy about the history of Mesopotamia.

Math:

This week in Math I finished lesson # 9 in Math U See. It was learning how to skip count by 9. Once I know how to skip count by 9, it will make it easier to learn how to multiply by 9 next week.

English/Language Arts:

I worked on my Spelling-U-See and finished my lesson #4.  I am learning about constant chunks.  My story this week was actually a rhyme.  We are also still reading our book Bambi as a family.  We talked about he different characters in the book and their internal and external character traits.

Science:

This week in science we talked more about biomes.  We starting studying grasslands and forests.  It was fun to talk about them since we are reading about Bambi in a deciduous forest in Europe.

History/Geography:

This week in Geography we starting talking about religions.  We talked about the 5 main religions that are practiced around the world.  We were able to make a map and talk about each religion and what they believe and what their sacred writings are.

Tech:

This week I worked on my last assignment where I saw two people my projects.  I like showing my projects to my grandpa Scott and showing him how they work and how can switch the codes. One of my favorite projects this year was the goal kicker.

P.E:
 
We are practicing twice a week still.  It is getting a little warmer, so that makes it more fun to practice and for my family to watch.  We are having fun playing our games on Saturdays too.

Week #30-31

Learning Log for Week of March 28th - April 8th


My favorite thing this week was going on a field trip to wheeler farm.


Homeroom:

This week I studied khan academy.  I worked a little bit on my math missions.  I also watched some videos about art history.

Math:

This week in Math I finished lesson # 7 & 8 in Math U See. It was about finding the area of a rectangle and solving for the unknown.  I like using the formula for area.  It took me a little bit to figure out solving for the unknown, but now I get it.

English/Language Arts:

I worked on my Spelling-U-See.  I am learning about vowel chunks in words...when two vowels are right next to each other.  I highlight them in yellow and then I practice writing the story down.  It is fun to learn the rules and to help become better at handwriting.

Science:

This week in science we finished up our study on birds.  Now we are starting a study on biomes and ecosystems.  It was fun to draw a map of the different biomes around the world.

History/Geography:

This week in Geography we talked about the different languages on the continent of Asia.  We are did history this week and are learning more about Mesopotamia.  I like learning about the Code of Hammurabi and also learning about Sargon the great.

Tech:

This week I worked on my sailboat for my lego class. It was fun to have to build the sail.  I had a hard time getting it to go at first, but I finally figured it out once I kept changing some things.

P.E:
 
We are playing soccer games now!  it is fun to have a game and try really hard as team.  We are winning more of our games this spring than we did in the fall and that is fun to be able to win some games.

Week #29

Learning Log for Week of March 21st - March 25th


My favorite thing this week was science this week.  I like watching the different science videos that go along with our lesson.


Homeroom:

This week I studied on brain pop junior.  I worked on the math section and my sister and I took some quizzes.  I also watched some videos on Khan Academy.

Math:

This week in Math I finished lesson #6 in Math U See. It was about multiplying game.

English/Language Arts:

I like working on our new Spelling Program, called Spelling-U-See.  My workbook is called Wild Tales.  I like that I get to learn about different animals as I learning my Spelling.  

Science:

This week in science we learned more about birds.  We learned about their migration and their feeding.  I learned that birds travel south, not because they get cold, but because the insects and things that they eat get cold and so there is no longer food for them to eat.

History/Geography:

This week in Geography we are still working on learning about the different languages around the world  We talked about the top 25 languages spoken.  We also made a map to show the different languages. 

Tech:

I am caught up with my lego class.  So I am just building and creating different projects on my own.  My favorite is to do the sports ones.  My brother likes to help me make basketball hoops.

P.E:
 
We are still practicing Mondays and Thursdays nights.  My favorite practice right now is on Monday night when we get to practice with all the players.  It's fun to play the different games that help us practice.

Week #28

Learning Log for Week of March 14th - March 18th


My favorite thing this week was playing my prodigy math game.


Homeroom:

This week I studied on brain pop junior.  I also worked on Khan Academy.  I like watching the videos and taking the quizzes.  I like the science the best.

Math:

This week in Math I finished lesson #5 in Math U See. I finished and took my test.  I like learning how to multiply.  I also playing on my math prodigy game to help with my other math skills.

English/Language Arts:

This week we worked on spelling and reading books as a family.  I have been reading different books with my mom.  My favorite book right now is Bambi. We have been reading it as a family.  It was hard at first to understand that He was the hunter.

Science:

This week in science we learned more about birds.  This week we talked more about birds. We talked about the different kinds of nests different birds make and why they do that.  We also studies the shape of eggs and why the design helps them stay safe till they hatch.

History/Geography:

This week in Geography we are still working on our study of the Asian continent. We studied the political geography and talked about boundaries.  We talked about he boundaries of our certain country that we have picked to study.  I liked looking at the map of South Korea and making the map to see what other countries surround South Korea.

Tech:

I finished my lego assignments right now.  But after seeing the lego league competition, I have been building different things to see how I change them.  I like building different things with my younger brother.

P.E:

We started playing soccer again.  It is fun to be with my team again to practice on Thursday and Coach Kendall.  The practice on Monday night is really fun too.

Week #19

Learning Log for Week of January 11th - January 15th



Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on khan academy.  I worked on art history in Khan Academy. The Art History was on Mesopotamian Art, I watched two videos and took a quiz on it.

Math:

This week in Math-U-See I worked on addition and subtraction. I took my test and worked math in Khan Academy.  I love the prodigy math game and am doing that as well.

English/Language Arts:

We are still working on our unit on Little House in the Big Woods.  We read about two bears story where Laura used a lantern to go out to the barn with her Ma.  So we made homemade lanterns.  We took old cans and then we drew a pattern and then put it on the can and drilled holes in the tin for the light to come through.  We learned about the literary elements of setting, plot, theme, characters, and style.

Science:

This week in science we are still learning about vertebrates.  We learned about the Komodo Dragon and how it is the worlds largest lizard.  We also learned that it is endangered.  I then did a report on an animal that is or was on the endangered list.  I choose the maned three toed sloth.  My favorite thing that I learned about the sloth is that because they are the world's slowest moving animal...there is algae that actually grows on their fur and it is helpful to camouflage in the trees.

History/Geography:

In History we learned more about our Egypt Unit and about Egyptian Mythology.  One of my favorite myths was how we got 365 days.  In Geography we are learning about Asia and we starting learning about lithospheres.  I am doing a geography report on India, so I worked on my map to show the different elements on the land of India.

Tech:

I have been working on my different lego assignments and trying different designs.  I like taking the design and changing it.  I found code monkey game online and have been playing that too to learn how to code.

P.E:

I have been working on my soccer skills. We are still taking a break from my soccer team, but I have been working with my dad.  We have gone to our church gym to practice there Tuesday nights.

Week #37

Learning Log for Week of May 16th - May20th


My favorite thing this week was going to Thanksgiving Point Museum and Curiosity Museum.


Homeroom:

I worked on my math facts this week. I am working on trying to multiplication and division flashcards in 1.5 minutes.  I also did code monkey where I learned how to code.

Math:

I finished my lesson #16 and took my unit test.  I learned how to skip count by 4 so that I can learn how to multiply by 4 in the next lesson.  I am excited to learn all my multiplication facts.

Science:

In Science we did a field trip to Thanksgiving Point and learned about flowers at the gardens.  Then we went to the curiosity museum and I learned about the rain forrest at the museum, it was fun to learn more since we did a study on biomes.

Language Arts:

I am working on my spelling in spelling-u-see.  I am working on my vowel chunks and constant chunks.  I was able to learn about momma bears and how she teaches her cubs while I was learning how to spell.  My favorite spelling day is the no rule day where I can draw a picture and then write my favorite sentence.

History/Geography:

This week we went on a field trip to the University of Utah and saw a program about the pacific islands and learned about some of their culture.  We visited Hawaii, Tahiti, and New Zealand.  My favorite island was Hawaii because I think it is really cool how the island was made by volcanos.

Tech:

I invited my friend George to come over and we did our last assignment together.  We came up with the ultimate roll-a-coster.  It was cool to try something new.

P.E.

In soccer last week we worked on our skills on Monday and got ready for our game on Thursday.  We had a game on Saturday.  We are getting excited to try out for competition soccer, I am just going to try out to see what it's like.  I am nervous and excited.

Week #36

Learning Log for Week of May 9th - May 13th


My favorite thing this week was my soccer game because my team

worked hard together and we won our game.

Homeroom:

We went on Khan Academy and learned about history. We learned about Babylon and King Nebuchadnezzar. I liked learning about hanging gardens of Babylon. 

Math:

I finished my Lesson # 14 in my Math-U-See. It was learning about multiplying by 6. I also liked working with my flash cards to help my addition and subtraction.

English/Language Arts:

In Spelling-U-See I finished my Lesson #10.  I am worked on what we call vowel chunks, constant chucks, tricky y guy, and bossy r. My lesson was on learning about hummingbirds.

Science:

In Science we finished our study on biomes. We did a project on our favorite biome.  I picked marine water and made a jelly fish habitat.  We also started talking about symbiosis and learned about the different relationships of mutualistic, commensalism, and parasitic relationships.

History/Geography:

We started our study on Greece.  We learned about the different Gods and Goddesses.  My favorite God of War...Ares in Greek and he is called Mars in the Roman.

Tech:

I finished my last project of the sailboat.  My favorite thing about it was programming it rock back and forth.  A hard thing about doing this project was that I wanted to do a couple of different things, so I had to go back and program it different a couple of times.

P.E.

We had soccer practice and worked our different moves.  We are working pull back and scissor move.  We had a game on Saturday and we won...my team and I were really excited.

Week #29

Learning Log for Week of April 11th - April 15th


My favorite thing this week was science.


Homeroom:

This week we watched video on Khan Academy.  We have been studying Babylon and we watched videos on the Code of Hammurabi and got to see it in the Louvre as well as the Gates of Ishtar.  I also worked on projects in sewing as well as worked on my girl scouts journeys.

Math:

This week in math I did Lesson # 9.  It is learning how to skip count by 3.  I also have been playing some math games online which I really like.

English/Language Arts:

We have been reading our Bambi book as a family.  I have been working on my Spelling-U-See.  I really like it, especially the no rule day where I can draw a picture and then write my favorite line.

Science:

This week in science we studied more about biomes.  We talked more specifically about desert and tundra. I like the tundra because it is really cold and I liked learning how the animals and plants adapt to survive int he cold so that we can take things of how to adapt in the cold.

History/Geography:

This week in History we talked more about Babylon and Nebuchadnezzar.  We learned about he battles and war fought between the Assyrians and the Babylonians. We learned about one of the ancient wonders of the world, the hanging gardens.  

Tech:

I turned in my giant project.  It was cool building the giant and then have the arm to make him stand.  I had my little brother help me change some things and play with it.

P.E.
Soccer is going great!  We have been practicing really hard and we have won our first two games.  I love it!

Week #25

Learning Log for Week of March 7th - March 11th


My favorite thing this week was my prodigy math game.


Homeroom:

This week I studied on brain pop junior.  I also worked on Khan Academy.  I like watching the videos and taking the quizzes.

Math:

This week in Math I finished lesson #4 in Math U See. It was about multiplying by 10.  I learned the easiest way was to skip count by 10.  I also really liked playing on my new prodigy math game.

English/Language Arts:

This week we worked on spelling and reading books as a family.  I am excited because we ordered a new spelling program called Spelling U See.  I am excited for it to come in and get started.

Science:

This week in science we learned more about birds.  This week we talked about the birds wings and feathers.  I didn't know that birds feathers keep them more warm than fur can, this is why our clothes are made up of down feathers and not fur.  We went to a lake by our house and we got to look at the different birds and see their peaks and their feet to see how the different types help them in their habitat. We also got to pick up feathers and look at them and see their different parts.

History/Geography:

This week in Geography we are still working on our study of the Asian continent. We studied the political geography and talked about boundaries.  We talked about the physical boundaries like mountains and rivers and then we talked about the man made boundaries lines. Then we made a map of all the different countries on the Asian Continent.

Tech:

I am finishing up my projects in my lego class.  This is my favorite class so far.  I love putting the pieces together and seeing them work.

P.E:

I am starting up with my soccer team again next week!  I am really excited and started practicing my drills in the backyard.  I organized my soccer stuff so I am ready to go!

Week #24

Learning Log for Week of February 29th - March 4th


My favorite thing this week was again going to Epcot at Disney world.


Homeroom:

This week I studied on brain pop junior.  I learned about Ezra Jack Keates who was an illustrator, who is a person who draws books.  I liked that he draws big pictures on the wall, murals.

Math:

This week in math I started working on my prodigy. My character's name is Aaron.  I like how you can earn things and then buy things.  You go to battle evil wizards and monsters, before you cast a spell you have to solve a math problem.  It is really cool and I love it.

English/Language Arts:

This week while we are on vacation I just read some books to my little brother.  I read books like Miss Nelson is Missing by James Marshall.  I love books by James Marshall, my favorite books he has written are the George and Martha books.  

Science:

While in Orlando, I went on the Epcot Ball and we learned about different scientists that created rockets.  We also went to the area that talked about land.  We went to Kennedy Space Center and we got to see the rockets and how scientists helped the astronauts launch into space.

History/Geography:

On the Epcot ride we learned about the history of the world.  We learned about dinosaurs, then went to caveman, then it went to Egyptians, then the Greeks and the Romans, and then it showed how it was all destroyed.  Then the Renaissance happened and they came out with books and it showed Michael Angelo and the Sistine Chapel.  Then it showed how they made radios and televisions and how we got a man to the moon.  

Tech:

I tried working on a new lego.  I need to try and code it.  I have enjoyed playing on code monkey too.

P.E:

I am going to be on a basketball team with my friends starting soon. My soccer starts up in April.  I loved swimming in the Atlantic Ocean while we were on vacation.

Week #23

Learning Log for Week of February 22nd - 26th


My favorite thing this week was learning while on our vacation in Disney world!


Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on my Khan academy.  I am still working on my first mission.  My mom bought a new program called prodigy that is also like Khan academy an we are going to be using that too with math.

Math:

This week in Math I stared my Lesson #4.  I am learning to multiply by 2's, the skip counting helped out a lot.  I am excited to start our new program in prodigy.

English/Language Arts:

My dad and I have been reading a new book called The Golden Goblet.  I am going to start working on a new language arts program, my mom and I are researching which program will be best.  I am excited to start our new family book study with Bambi.

Science:

This week we went to Epcot and Animal Kingdom.  I was excited to go on the safari ride and see all the neat animals we have been studying.  My most favorite part was where we got to see the different biomes, it was fun since we had talked about them in family school.

History/Geography:

This week we got to go to Epcot and go to the different countries.  We got to see Japan, China, Mexico, Canada, USA, Norway, and France.  My favorite country was Japan.  I loved meeting all the different people and having them sign my passport. 

Tech:

This week I have been just playing with my different lego parts.  My goal is to finish all my projects.  I also want to take some old projects and change them a bit.

P.E:

We went to the gym again and this week we practiced both our soccer and our basketball.  We worked on our drills with dribbling and shooting.  I am getting ready for spring soccer to start with my team...I am excited!

Week #22

Learning Log for Week of February 15th - 19th


My favorite thing this week was learning was going to wheeler farm.  I like the warm weather and that we can go outside and seeing all the animals.

Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked in brain pop.  I worked on science.  I watched a video on food chains, nature, and science projects.

Math:

This week in Math I finished my Lesson #3.  It is on skip counting 2, 5, and 10. I like to skip by 2 the most.

English/Language Arts:

This week we finished Little House in the Big Woods.  We learned how Pa hunts and how they did the harvest for the next year.  We went to Wheeler Farm to look at the animals and to see some of the tractors and to see if we could see a thresher machine.  My favorite animal was the big horses.

Science:

This week we talked more about birds.  We talked about the beaks and the feet of birds.  We did a test were we put different things on a plate like rice, peanuts, pasta, and chocolate chips.  We then took different tools like a tweezers, spoon, fingers, and scissors.  We talked about how the different feet and beaks help each bird adapt to their environment.

History/Geography:

This  week we starting learning about political geography.  We learned about Matthew Maury and how he wrote a lot about political geography that we still use.  We learned that political geography means a study of things that are man made, the people, the way they worship God, food, clothing, entertainment, the way they are ruled, and their resources. I like political geography because I like learning about different cultures.

Tech:

This week I started working on my giant project.  I am going to build it the way the assignment asks and then I am going to change it and see if I code it different.  I want to have it move it's arm and pick something up.  I found something called code monkey.  You have to code it to walk where it needs to walk to the bananas.  It's really fun and hard.

P.E:

We went to the gym again and this week we practiced both our soccer and our basketball.  We worked on drills with dribbling and shooting.  We worked on kicking and protecting the goal.

Week #21

Learning Log for Week of February 8th - 12th


My favorite thing this week was learning was going to the Norman Rockwell Art Exhibit

 It was neat seeing all the different drawings 


Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on khan academy.  I worked on my math mission.  I like doing the math online, it's different than my regular math where we have to do worksheets.

Math:

This week in Math I started working on my gamma book.  I did lesson #1 and 2.  I worked on looking at rectangles and finding the area.  Lesson #2 was learning how to multiply by 1 and 0.

English/Language Arts:

As a family we are reading Little House in the Big Woods we read the chapters were Laura slapped Mary when Mary said something unkind and then we read about cousin Charley getting stung by a bunch of bees.  We talked about obedience and how things would have been different if Laura and Charley had obeyed.  We then talked about what obedience means to use and how we can be more obedient. I said I want to work on being listening the first time.

Science:

This week in science we are still working on vertebrates and we starting talking about birds.  We did a bird venn diagram and talked about how birds are like us, unique, and different.  We talked about the different features of birds.  We watched videos on different birds, my favorite was the Lyre Bird that will mimic different sounds in the forest to impress the females.


History/Geography:

We are learning about Japan this month in our country studies.  One of my favorite things is the origami.  We got to make different origami and try out some different foods like sushi.  

Tech:

This week I am ahead in my lego class so I have been working on doing different lego combinations.  I have been building with my younger brother different boats and cars and want to try and figure out how to make them go.

P.E.:

Since the weather has been cold we went to a gym to practice.  We set up goals so I could have a game with some friends.  We practiced some drills and did some games.
