Week #23

Learning Log for Week of February 22nd - 26th


My favorite thing this week was learning while on our vacation in Disney world!


Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on my Khan academy.  I am still working on my first mission.  My mom bought a new program called prodigy that is also like Khan academy an we are going to be using that too with math.

Math:

This week in Math I stared my Lesson #4.  I am learning to multiply by 2's, the skip counting helped out a lot.  I am excited to start our new program in prodigy.

English/Language Arts:

My dad and I have been reading a new book called The Golden Goblet.  I am going to start working on a new language arts program, my mom and I are researching which program will be best.  I am excited to start our new family book study with Bambi.

Science:

This week we went to Epcot and Animal Kingdom.  I was excited to go on the safari ride and see all the neat animals we have been studying.  My most favorite part was where we got to see the different biomes, it was fun since we had talked about them in family school.

History/Geography:

This week we got to go to Epcot and go to the different countries.  We got to see Japan, China, Mexico, Canada, USA, Norway, and France.  My favorite country was Japan.  I loved meeting all the different people and having them sign my passport. 

Tech:

This week I have been just playing with my different lego parts.  My goal is to finish all my projects.  I also want to take some old projects and change them a bit.

P.E:

We went to the gym again and this week we practiced both our soccer and our basketball.  We worked on our drills with dribbling and shooting.  I am getting ready for spring soccer to start with my team...I am excited!

Week #22

Learning Log for Week of February 15th - 19th


My favorite thing this week was learning was going to wheeler farm.  I like the warm weather and that we can go outside and seeing all the animals.

Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked in brain pop.  I worked on science.  I watched a video on food chains, nature, and science projects.

Math:

This week in Math I finished my Lesson #3.  It is on skip counting 2, 5, and 10. I like to skip by 2 the most.

English/Language Arts:

This week we finished Little House in the Big Woods.  We learned how Pa hunts and how they did the harvest for the next year.  We went to Wheeler Farm to look at the animals and to see some of the tractors and to see if we could see a thresher machine.  My favorite animal was the big horses.

Science:

This week we talked more about birds.  We talked about the beaks and the feet of birds.  We did a test were we put different things on a plate like rice, peanuts, pasta, and chocolate chips.  We then took different tools like a tweezers, spoon, fingers, and scissors.  We talked about how the different feet and beaks help each bird adapt to their environment.

History/Geography:

This  week we starting learning about political geography.  We learned about Matthew Maury and how he wrote a lot about political geography that we still use.  We learned that political geography means a study of things that are man made, the people, the way they worship God, food, clothing, entertainment, the way they are ruled, and their resources. I like political geography because I like learning about different cultures.

Tech:

This week I started working on my giant project.  I am going to build it the way the assignment asks and then I am going to change it and see if I code it different.  I want to have it move it's arm and pick something up.  I found something called code monkey.  You have to code it to walk where it needs to walk to the bananas.  It's really fun and hard.

P.E:

We went to the gym again and this week we practiced both our soccer and our basketball.  We worked on drills with dribbling and shooting.  We worked on kicking and protecting the goal.

Week #21

Learning Log for Week of February 8th - 12th


My favorite thing this week was learning was going to the Norman Rockwell Art Exhibit

 It was neat seeing all the different drawings 


Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on khan academy.  I worked on my math mission.  I like doing the math online, it's different than my regular math where we have to do worksheets.

Math:

This week in Math I started working on my gamma book.  I did lesson #1 and 2.  I worked on looking at rectangles and finding the area.  Lesson #2 was learning how to multiply by 1 and 0.

English/Language Arts:

As a family we are reading Little House in the Big Woods we read the chapters were Laura slapped Mary when Mary said something unkind and then we read about cousin Charley getting stung by a bunch of bees.  We talked about obedience and how things would have been different if Laura and Charley had obeyed.  We then talked about what obedience means to use and how we can be more obedient. I said I want to work on being listening the first time.

Science:

This week in science we are still working on vertebrates and we starting talking about birds.  We did a bird venn diagram and talked about how birds are like us, unique, and different.  We talked about the different features of birds.  We watched videos on different birds, my favorite was the Lyre Bird that will mimic different sounds in the forest to impress the females.


History/Geography:

We are learning about Japan this month in our country studies.  One of my favorite things is the origami.  We got to make different origami and try out some different foods like sushi.  

Tech:

This week I am ahead in my lego class so I have been working on doing different lego combinations.  I have been building with my younger brother different boats and cars and want to try and figure out how to make them go.

P.E.:

Since the weather has been cold we went to a gym to practice.  We set up goals so I could have a game with some friends.  We practiced some drills and did some games.

Week #20

Learning Log for Week of February 1st - February 5th


My favorite thing this week was going to see the mummies at the Leonardo.  We have been studying about mummies and how they were buried in our Egypt study.


Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on khan academy.  I worked on math mission, I am at 55% of my first math mission.  My goal is to get to 75% next week.

Math:

This week in Math I finished my entire Beta Book!  I was really excited to take the Lesson #30 test, Unit test, and then my final test.  I am excited to start Gamma and learn how to multiply.

English/Language Arts:

We are still working on our unit on Little House in the Big Woods.  We read about going to town.  We talked about how Laura and her character.  Laura had the best, wonderful and hard day.  It was the best day because she got to see the town Pepin and go to the store.  Laura dressed up in her best dress and got to curl her hair.  It was a hard day because she ripped her dress and the store keeper only talked about Mary's hair.

Science:

This week in science talked more about vertebrates and this week was about Sharks. We talked about the whale shark, the great white shark, and the hammerhead shark.  We learned that we shouldn't how sharks lives so it made them not seem so scary.  They are the top predators in their environment.

History/Geography:

In History this week we finished our unit study on Egypt. We talked about pyramids and how they were built to honor their dead.  We watched videos of the how the great pyramids of Giza were built.  We got to make an Egyptian necklace.

Tech:

In my Lego Robotics Class I worked on my top five favorite lessons.  I helped my friend, George, learn how to built his first robotics and program it with the codes.  I also took a coupe of projects and changed them a little bit.  I also showed my Grandpa one of my projects and showed him how it works.  I had to order a new part for my next project.

P.E.

I am going to go to the Harlem Globe Trotters next week.  I am really excited, so my little brother and I have been practicing our moves.  We have been practicing with our dad.

Week #19

Learning Log for Week of January 25th - January 29th


My favorite thing this week was going to the lego league competition.


Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on khan academy.  I worked more on my math mission.  We are also learning about Egypt in Art so I watched so of the videos on Egypt i the Art History section.

Math:

This week in Math I finished my Lesson #29 and took my test.  I am going to finish lesson #30 next week and I will be done with Beta and I will get to start my Gamma.  I am excited to learn how to multiply!

English/Language Arts:

We are still working on our unit on Little House in the Big Woods.  We read about the "Dance at Grandpa's" and how dancing was a way of showing their way of a happy and strong family. We talked about the different things an author using to tell a story, like characters.  My sister and I did character charts of each other and talked about how our internal character affects our external character. We made Laura's recipe for Gingerbread and had it for a treat after we shared our

Science:

This week in science talked more about vertebrates. We moved onto a new class, Fish. We learned the different types of fish and the different parts of their body. We watched a few videos on differnt types of fish underwater. We were assigned to do a report on a fish. I chose a Bass Fish, I did a research on it's habitat, diet, reproduction, and fun facts.

History/Geography:

In History we are working more In our Egypt Unit and about the studied more about the Egyptian Gods. We learned their names and their purpose of what they did. It is cool to learn about their Mythology and culture that took place hundreds and hundreds of years ago.   

Tech:
In my robotics's class I worked on just playing with different lego parts since I am ahead on my project. I had a friend come over and I helped him with his first lego project.  On Saturday, my dad took us to the lego league competition, it was really cool to see all the things people have
built and how they compete. 

P.E.

My soccer team is on break till March.  So I have been working on my cub scouts.  I just went into cub scouts last month.  Last week was our pack meeting and I made the goal to earn my bobcat and two other adventures.  I earned the running with the pack adventure as I completed those at my den meetings.  I choose to do the bobcat on my own and then my mom and I worked on Digging in the Past adventure.  In the adventure I learned all about dinosaurs and their fossils.  I got to make a fossil and then make the different layers of soil, in a dessert, that help make, create, and keep fossils.
