Week #12

Learning Log for Week of November 16th - November 20th

My favorite thing this week was going the aquarium field trip.

I liked seeing the different animals, especially in the rain forrest part.

Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on brain pop junior and khan academy. I watched videos on brain pop junior on science. I worked on khan academy to get my new avatar.

Math:

This week in Math I I finished my Lesson # 20 and took my test from Math-U-See.  It was more Multiple-Digit Column Addition and so since I worked on it in Lesson #19, it was a easier this week.  I also worked on Khan academy in math to earn points for a new avatar.

English/Language Arts:

I kept reading my book Who is Jackie Robinson. I have been learning about how white and black people were separated from restaurants and different places in the baseball stands.  It was hard to Jackie to have to be tough when people were mean to him for playing baseball just because he was black.  I wrote in my journal this week too.

Science:

This week our science we worked on shadow and light.  We talked about how shadows happen and we made shadow puppets.  We made a shark, sail boat, snail, and a cloud.  We also went to the Aquarium on a field trip for science this week.  My favorite thing about the field trip was learning about the penguins.

Tech:

I played more with my goal keeper and then I built the soccer fans project.  It was hard to build the soccer fans, but I figured it out. I got to record different voices for the fans that I can code and then play.

P.E.:

This week in soccer we had our indoor soccer practice. We learned some new moves. I have videos that my coach sent that I am to work on at home.  It is practicing different toe taps.

Week #11

Learning Log for Week of November 9th - November 13th

My favorite thing this week was going on another field trip to

the Children's Curiosity Museum and this time we took our friends with us.

The Rainforest is my favorite part.

Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on brain pop junior. I learned about subtraction, addition, and measuring. I took quizzes on the measurements.  I also learned about patterns and took the quizzes.

Math:

This week in Math I I finished my Lesson # 19 and took my test from Math-U-See.  It was Multiple-Digit Column Addition. I was sort of upset cause it was hard, but I got through it. I feel like it's good to learn about math so you can know what to do when you are a dad and in college, it was just hard.  I also helped my mom bake ginger molasses cookies and I got to read the recipe and figure out the measurements for the cookies.

English/Language Arts:

I started a new book Who is Jackie Robinson.. Some of my favorite things about Jackie Robinson was that he really liked all sports and he could play all sports. His older brother did track and field and so did Jackie. When Jackie would get passed by other runners, he would kept going because he knew he needed to keep going and that he might still be able to win. He was a good competitor, he was nice, kind, friendly, and sometimes he was funny.  Jackie was also shy. He wanted to compete in the 1942 Summer Olympics, but because of WWII he wasn't able to compete. He ended up signing up to be in the US army.

Science:

This week our science experiment was a homemade volcano. We put baking soda, dish soap, and the water in a cup.  There was no reaction when we added these ingredients together.  But when we added the vinegar it made it erupt.  Then we watched a video about volcanos in Hawaii. We made our lava orange like the volcanos in Hawaii.

Tech:

I was excited to build lots of my projects.  So the first project I did was my flying bird.  Then I built my goal kicker and I tried different things that it could kick.  Then I built my goal keeper, which is my favorite project so far.  He is cool cause he can block stuff and I can stand him up or put him on his side.  At first I made him so he couldn't move a lot and then I added more legos to make him be able to go even further.

P.E.:

This week in soccer we had our indoor soccer practice.  We learned some new moves.  One of them is when someone is bringing the ball to you, from the opposite team, you stop the ball with your foot, then you put your foot on top of it and kick the ball a little bit behind you and turn the ball and start going the other way to make a goal.

Week #10

Learning Log for Week of November 2nd - November 6th

My favorite thing this week was going to the Museum of Curiosity and

going to the Rainforest exhibit

Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked in Khan Academy.  I earned more points and helped me with my math.  I got to do some math that I had never done before when I clicked watch video, that was really cool

Math:

This week in Math I I finished my Lesson # 18 from Math-U-See.  It was Multiple-Digit Column Addition. It was hard, but I was able to get it done. I like doing the Math on Brain Pop and Khan Academy.

English/Language Arts:

This week I kept reading my book, Who is Abraham Lincoln and my goal is to finish it next week.  I put a book on hold at the library, it's the called The Magic Tree House. My sister said these were some of her favorite books when she was in 2nd grade, so I am excited to start reading it when it comes in.  My favorite thing I did was go to the scout shop, I am becoming a cub scout next month.  We got my wolf book and I started reading in it with my mom.  I am working on memorizing the scout oath and law.

Science:

This week our science experiment was "Action-Reaction," We took a dollar bill and we tried two experiments. The first was to have someone else drop the dollar bill and count how many seconds it took us to catch the dollar bill, and then the other we dropped the dollar bill and we counted how many seconds till we caught the dollar bill.  Each time we dropped the dollar bill and caught it, we were faster because our mind sent a single to our arm that we needed to catch it.  We also talked about inertia and how an object that stays at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion.  We watched a video of an experiment where they put a glass of water and then a pin tin over the glass and then set an empty toilet paper roll on top of the pie tin and then set the egg on top of the toilet paper roll.  Then the scientist backed away and used his hand to knock the pie tin off the glass. The egg dropped straight down into the water, it was awesome. I started a new program called "Doodle Crate." It comes in the mail once a month and I get to work on different things, this month I get to work on maps.

Tech:

I am a little ahead in my Robotics Class so I did some more practice and coding with my goal keeper. I want it to be able to kick and block with different small toys.  My whole family wants to try different things, I am going to finish it next week.

P.E.:

This week in soccer we had our first indoor soccer practice.  It is at a place called Soccer City. Playing soccer inside is a little easier because sometimes when you are playing outside you can slip and fall, but inside that doesn't happen.  I play at Soccer City once a week, but I am still working on my soccer skills when I am at home.

Week #9

Learning Log for Week of October 26th - October 30th

My favorite thing this week was starting my Khan Academy Account.

Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I set up my account with Khan Academy. I did the math section, it is really fun and you can have your own avatar. I like how you can do math, reading, and science.  My goal is to get 10,000 points so I can change my avatar.

Math:
This week in Math I I finished my Lesson # 17 from Math-U-See.  It was on rounding the 1,000's place.  It was hard because you have more numbers to look at.

English/Language Arts:

This week I kept reading my book, Who is Abraham Lincoln. I liked learning about the civil war. My mom is also looking into different language curriculum programs to help me with my reading, so I am excited to start a new program.

Science:

This week our science experiment was "The Five Senses." We took three bowls of water: one hot, one room temperature, and one cold.  We put one hand in the hot water bowl and the other in the cold water bowl and we had to keep our hands in the water for 30 seconds.  Then after the 30 seconds, we put our hands in the room temperature water bowl.  The hand that was in the hot bowl felt the room temperature water was cold and the hand that had been in the cold water bowl felt the room temperature water was warm.  I learned that how we perceive things is effected by our environment. And that our different senses are amazing and help us live in our world.

Tech:

This week for my Robotics Class, I started building my goal keeper.  This was the one I wanted to do the most because I like being the soccer goalie position.  For Halloween I dressed up like a Brazilian goal keeper.  I am going to finish next week and see what kinds of things it can kick.

P.E.:

This week in soccer we had our last Soccer game of the season.  We had two players that were gone, so we had a smaller team and I had to run around a lot.  We lost our game, but it was really close and we tried really hard.  Our season is over, but I get to start indoor winter practice next week.
